It's not. More of a both coasts thing. It's a ghetto thing. Poor neighborhoods. I've never heard anyone say momma. Unless you're talking like 5 year olds. Though I've heard 20 year olds say mommy so I guess it whatever you prefer.

There's just different ways to say it, is all. Like you could the ghetto version or the prissy California-girl version.
