In Australia it's soccer. If you say football, we assume you mean footy. Not Rugby, rugby is a completely different sport.

As an Irishman in my personal experience both Gaelic and "soccer" are referred to as football (though it may differ in your county). It can be difficult sometimes because someone may say something like "did you see the football match?" And sometimes you'll need them to clarify but as a general rule it doesn't cause too much hassle

Umm every county ive been to which is most of them cept northern ireland its always soccer and football nobody calls them both football...its probably cause you're from the north ....(i know tht cus all u seem to do is comment that your irish on every post or comment that mentions ireland)
