Dude, you're seventeen; you've got plenty of time.
My advice; get a job (can be a shit job, just one that pays), save up so you have a financial cushion, and volunteer a ton. Be a volunteer firefighter, an EMT, work in a soup kitchen, cleanups, charity work. You'll figure out what you're passionate about through that, and from there you work to that goal.
Don't sweat it, especially this early. You'll be fine.
Not really true at all for the 17 part.... I turned 18 about a week ago and was roughly shoved into the real world. I have no place to sleep, but somehow have a job making sandwiches and that's all I have besides my bike, phone, and gym membership....
To nirvanafyre from the original long-post guest (because my phone doesn't allow me to respond to others replies); that jackass isn't the same guest, and I am deeply sorry for your circumstances and hope you're doing okay
And two backups.
