I'm not American and know stuff all about your gun laws but from an outside perspective, guns aren't evil the people wielding them are, does it not make sense to prevent the idiots who kill people with guns from having access to them? It seems to have worked in a lot of other countries.
The US is next to a pit of criminals and is littered with smaller pits.
If guns were outlawed, not only would we be denied an integral liberty, but we'd also piss off half the population, and leave everyone much more vulnerable to criminals.
It's like a car -- cars themselves don't cause accidents, do they? No. So why are guns viewed like they are killing people. People kill people, not the objects themselves. If people learned correct gun safety and people didn't use them for horrible things, maybe guns would be viewed differently. Guns are only a danger to people around them if used incorrectly (be it bad intention or incorrect use). I'm not condoning people who do kill with guns, this is a terrible thing that sadly does happen -- I'm only saying that not everyone who owns a rifle is a murderer. I'm 15 and I know how to shoot a bow, gun and crossbow. Have I killed a guy? No.
I don't wanna take a stance or anything, but weapons and vehicles have different purposes. Weapons are made to harm or kill, vehicles are for transport.
Because our Constitution makes it so they altogether can't be illegal without giving the ability to get rid of the rest. But we could at least make it harder to get them and ban the more dangerous ones.
Because the US has it's own set of rules much like your nation does. People emigrated here for hundreds of years and continue to do so today knowing that we do things a little differently.
We haven't made guns illegal because we're a cowardly lot. We hide behind the Constitution ("Dunt you tuch muh guns! I'ma 'Murican!") when it suits us ("We can't allow THOSE people to vote, so we'll make it harder for THEM come election time."). Special interests (namely, the NRA) convince enough people that ANY action that doesn't result in more weapons getting into the hands of white, Anglo-Saxan people will lead to the creation of a NAZI state and all our guns will be taken away. Whenever a tragedy occurs involving guns, we're told to wait until after the grieving to find solutions but the problem is the grieving never ends. We face too many gun incidents and the cycle keeps repeating itself. It's sad when people tell us the answer to of all the gun violence is to have more guns available to everyone. That is how twisted we, as a nation, have become. Sorry, I'll get down from my soapbox now. Thank you.
"Hiding behind the constitution"? The constitution is the DNA of this country. The construction is what allows you to have your misguided opinions and feel free enough to spout them off. The constitution was here long before you. The 2nd ammendment has very little to do with guns, it has everything to do with giving the citizens the means to protect themselves from a government should it gain too much power.
You misunderstood my meaning of hiding behind the Constitution. And the 2nd Amendment is nothing but guns. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
I think you may be the one who's misunderstanding. A militia is every able bodied and able minded citizen of a county.
The whole point of the Bill of Rights is to keep power away from government entities.
And what is the part about keeping and bearing Arms? The Bill of Rights establishes what the government CAN and CAN NOT do. It's a two-way street. "Congress shall..." and "Congress shall not..." What power is not listed in the Bill of Rights is given to the individual states to do with as they will (within certain parameters) - the 10th Amendment.
The Bill of Rights doesn't keep power away from government entities. It guides the government on what it can and cannot do. It helps keep the government in check.
Guest, the 2nd ammendment is in place for the moment the bill of rights isnt adhered to by the government. This may surprise you but the US government doesnt always follow its rules.
What dafuq did I just read? This site is becoming increasingly filled with trolls and people who wake up each morning wondering what will offend them today. I used to enjoy this site but lately it has become depressing. Farewell to you all.
Guest didn't understand that the first amendment (and the fourth) would be nothing but unenforceable words without the second. Unfortunately NYC voters have voted away most of their own 4th amendment rights and some of our 2nd and are beginning to curtail the 1st. Without #2 the rest are up for grabs.
Yeah, guns don't kill people. People kill people. And guess what enables people, mad, crazy people hiding in everyday society to kill dozens of others? Maybe the fact that guns are legal and can be practiced with as well as carried in public? Just a thought here. And yes, I'm American.
every time i see this point it makes me so mad cuz its not true at all, people blame the killers more than the guns themselves, just they ALSO wish people had less access to guns to make it harder to commit the acts. no one says "augh look at what this gun did! bad gun!"
