Yes. It's definitely worth it if your curvature is very bad (mine was 60+ on top and 45+ on bottom). If it's really bad it can cause lung and heart problems. If it's minor and your doctor says you don't need surgery then you'll be fine, but braces are awful, trust me. If you have any other questions about the surgery/recovery, I'm happy to answer them for you
It's a hereditary thing. My mom had a 10 degree curve but my aunt had a 50 degree curve. The bad posture I had was caused by the curvature. The only real way to try and prevent a small curve from becoming worse is to use a brace if your doctor recommends it. But like I said, it was awful and uncomfortable. It's basically a plastic mold that goes all the way around your torso that you wear under your shirt, making it very awkward and hard to sleep in or breathe in because it constricts your stomach so you have to learn not to breath using your diaphragm.
And also, I just got rid of my braces because I finished growing, and I finally started going to gym class, and it's awful because my diaphragm is very weak, and it's hard to breathe while exercising. I have a 42 degree curve up and 39 degree curve down, so basically, I am at the limit of a surgery, and I'm going ro do a radiography on Wednesday to see if I will need or not the surgery... so Internet, wish me luck.. :(
Good luck with your recovery! cristinica!
Nobody in my family has or had this, so I think I'm safe. I'm lucky I guess. I feel bad that you guys have to go through all the discomfort that you're going through. Get well y'all.
