Didn't it also start a mini ice age with all of the ash it spewed into the atmosphere?
Yup, it spewed 20 million tons of ash into the air, and all residents of the neighbouring island Sebesi were killed. That island was 8 miles away and had 3,000 inhabitants.

Unfortunately, it's 11:42pm, and I'm supposed to be asleep. Thus, I cannot upload a recording of myself pronouncing the good king's entire name.
Good day.
