I'm just gonna say it: if you wanna look like a FUCKING BARBIE DOLL,you are either crazy, or incredibly stupid. And if your kid wants to look like Barbie, and develops an eating disorder as a result,IT IS YOUR FAULT,for not teaching her that her appearances don't matter as much as her health.
Eating disorders are nobodies fault, a friend of mine has anorexia and she has parents who are psychologists talk a lot about appearances not mattering as much as health and the importance of good body image. A huge part of anorexia is a genetic predisposition, and things like body image can come from heaps of places - bullying, social media etc.
If you listen to bullies and/or people on social media, then THAT IS YOUR OWN FAULT. And from what I know,"genetic predispositions" have NOTHING to do with eating disorders.
Even if it does, it still comes down to your choice. I'm genetically predisposed to addictive behavior but I chose to walk down that path just like I'm choosing to walk out of it now. It's kind of like just learn your weaknesses and do what you need to do to not give in to them.
Personality type has a lot to do work eating disorders too. And personal history. People who crave order and purpose in life, who also experience a trauma beyond their control are more likely to develop an eating disorder. It's not an addiction, it's a form of coping or taking control of one's life, usually both.
The difference is, trying to look like a Barbie doll is unhealthy and dangerous. Trying to look like he-man is reaching prime physical condition. Big difference.
I agree with your point about barbie but 1) He-man is not necessarily "prime condition" 2) It is unreachable for many people and that still lowers self esteem
the he man figure is just as proportionally off as the barbie for ideal figures. ppl need to stop thinking dolls are what kids think they have to look like. they are cartoonish in shape and for a reason.
When I started using the interwebs, Iwas shocked when I heard about the whole "unrealistic standards for women" thing, 'cause I never once in my life wanted to look like that. I honestly never thought anyone would.
I'm trying real dang hard to *gain* weight :p I guess everyone has that *ideal* body type, huh?

I spent most of my teen years trying to gain weight. It comes a lot easier after about 25 or so...
Can we not freak out about an 80's toy .. he-man was a cartoon invented to sell toys that wouldn't sell after the Conan series (arnold schwarzenegger's first film) The two toys are not on par with social impact.
