It's supposed to be for the passengers. Could probably hike up the price of an Uber by saying there will be WiFi.
However, there are those who use their phones whilst driving and put themselves and others in danger, but you shouldn't generalise that if a car has WiFi, the owner is instantly an irresponsible person unworthy of their license.
I don't think they're quite saying that. I do think that it can encourage people to use their phones while driving. Because with wifi there is easier access to social media apps like facebook, twitter and instagram. Wifi would be a much more appealing aspect because then people don't have to use phone data. And there have been plenty of times I've seen friends post photos of themselves while they were driving, showing they were on the road in the middle of the interstate. It doesn't automatically mean they're irresponsible, but this can make the texting and driving epidemic even worse.
I haven't driven before so I can't relate, but surely some music or the radio at least will keep drivers entertained without the need to use their phone?
I've never understood why someone would risk their life for a text or to get on social media and stuff
I don't either. Even though it's a terrible thing for people to do, it happens all the time. I've only been able to drive for about 2 years, but I see it all the time when I'm on the road. I see people much older, probably in 40's and 50's, texting and driving along with people my age(I'm 18 btw). I've never ever texted while I was driving. I keep my phone on silent, in my purse and in the backseat of my car and it stays there until I'm stopped and parked. However, I do connect my bluetooth and location to my car for GPS purposes and so I can listen to my own music, but I don't even touch my phone to change the song.
I had a feeling there was a catch to it. So basically not only are you paying for the car, the insurance and the gas but also a fourth bill for internet connection
nono im not debating what the wifi is for, im debating the notion that someone who would use it to check facebook while driving is going to do it any more than they already do, without the wifi, on the network connection.
You guys know that WiFi has uses besides social media, right? Like maps and navigation or streaming radio. I could totally see where I'd use WiFi in my car as a driver and still not be making status updates or browsing FunSubstance.

I've heard of external ones that plug into the car's cigarette socket thing
