I did some searching around, and I could not find a credible source for this hypothesis (only two sites, one of which was celebrity gossip and the other on Answers.com). As an electrical engineer who graduated from Oxford, I can imagine he would be a remarkably intelligent man (possibly with an IQ of over 140), but I would be most reluctant before trusting "facts" thrown around on the internet. An IQ of 178 is higher than that of Stephen Hawking's.

You never know. Just because he became an actor doesn't mean he can't be "smarter" than Stephen Hawking. My brother and my son and daughter have higher IQ's than Stephen Hawking.

I understand that, sir/ma'am. However, one can only assert something as fact if such an assertion has the evidence to support it. After doing research, this claim has barely anything substantial, therefore it cannot be regarded as fact. I do not dismiss the possibility of the claim; I dismiss its concrete assertion.
