Because mini M&Ms have a higher candy shell to chocolate ratio.

yeah but theres more to the flavour and texture interplay than just that, like i for one like chocolate more than candy shell but the minis are still better.

When I was younger, I used to save the little canisters, and when I was sad I would take a whiff and the chocolate smell would cheer me up
