it wouldn't be so bad if we didn't spend so much making sure that people and their coffins didn't rot for as long as possible in the ground, otherwise it would be just a long term fertilization plan

That bugs me too. I think there in Oregon you're legally required to use the formaldehyde to prevent rotting. I would think we'd be all on board with cardboard coffins and being compost when we're dead but I guess we're not that green.
i find the whole funeral thing so morbid... even the religious think the body is just a vessel for the soul so why are we putting a corpse on display? how is that not disrespectful? i don't care that much cuz when im dead im dead, but unless a family member has some NEED for a viewing i would prefer they skip that farce and just burn me and have some sort of drunken in memory gathering or something... the whole thing is silliness and its silliness turned into vicious profiting off grief stricken family because its made out to be something you HAVE TO DO or you clearly don't CARE about them. i could go on for pages.

I get you. Sometimes its kind of nice to feel like I can say goodbye to them. We always have a potluck after funerals. I've always liked that part better than the service.
My youngest will shoot the flaming arrow into my boat as I float away. She and I are the only ones that can shoot a now so she automatically got the job.
