Ahhh, the dilemma here is that lots of stupid or misspelt names are actually real names from non English speaking countries. Plus, who gives a shit, I don't like my name even though it is a completely normal name. The kid can always change it when they're older

yeah... while some of the spellings get a little crazy, its stupid to hate on people for how they spell their names. i mean i LOVE the spelling of my name (Jayne) even if it means i gotta correct people non stop on saying it (its not janie)

Having that issue right now. I have a welsh name and live in New Zealand. If I e-mail someone for a job they may think I'm not a native NZder and won't hire me. Over the phone fine but without that...its not great

Uhm... As a kiwi, I can say that wherever you're applying for jobs are assholes, mainly because I've NEVER heard of that sort of racism in NZ. Seriously, if you've experienced this, talk to some legal representatives about it.

Racism is everywhere and unless they explicitly said we won't hire you because we think you're Welsh he wouldn't be able to prove it.

I think they might be speaking to the parents who named their daughter La-a, pronounced Ladasha. Or perhaps the people who consider naming their kids Hashtag.

yeah i am pretty sure ladasha is just a myth to perpetuate what people WANT to think is true about "certain segments of society"

Actually, my dad is a firefighter, and one of the runs he went on was for a woman's daughter whose name was La-a.

bebajune, in Dutch (and I think in some other languages as well) the e is pronounced like that.

the point is, her mother named her "toilet".

She probably heard it somewhere, thought it was pretty and named her daughter Latrine without knowing what it meant.

I used to want to be named something like Jessica for whatever reason, but I actually really love my name now (it's Laura).

My problem is that everyone thinks that my name is misspelt but it is just the old French version so it is actually the more correct. Most of the Isabel's I know are spelt like I just wrote but mine is spelt Isobelle and I love it even if autocorrect and spelt check don't.

My favorite wrong name is an actor on "Black Jesus": Antwon. I'm pretty, pretty sure, it was supposed to be Antoine...

c-airah is NOT a real name in another language. Wish the parents wouldn't get angry that people don't immediately understand it should be pronounced "Sierra."

Why does it drive you crazy? You have a strangely spelled name and people are trying their best. I don't get upset when people misspell my name. It's strangely spelled and I don't expect people to know how to spell it unless I tell them. Rebekkah instead of Rebecca

like... i get if the same person consistently calls you the wrong thing.. but being upset by people who don;t get it on their first try is absurd. when people call me janie, if its someone i might see again, i simply correct them... if not, i don't even give a fuck i just let it go.
