Why don't they just help the poor instead of installing these things? Not being mean; just really asking a question.

How would you suppose they help

Homeless shelters. Many of them allow you to take showers, will feed you and give you a place to sleep for the night..you do have to leave come morning, but better than nothing.

Oh but I know they do. I'm assuming they collect bottle to recycle and get paid for it this is helping them to earn some income without having to dig through the trash.

I don't understand why you would conclude that no one is helping the homeless just because these were installed... This is common courtesy where I live to put your cans and bottles separate from public garbage cans so homeless people can return them for cash. But it doesn't mean we don't also have shelters and clothing bins available.

I agree this is just further helping them by not having to dig in the trash

We help our poor far better then most countries in this world with maybe the exeption of the Nordic 4. I would love to know where you are from lyonstill, and how you're helping your poor.

no matter how you help people there will still be somone digging through the trash for recycling. sometimes they are not even homeless, there were a couple of older mentally challenged guys in my hometown who had places to stay and were fed but they still had elaborate bike set-ups to go around and collect cans for recycling. this is just a way to try to make it less gross for them. sometimes i think this is why people get tired of helping, because everything they do is put up on a pedestal of "not helping enough"
