A minimum wage summer job paid for tuition 30 years ago so fuck off. College is a requirement to be successful unless you're a genius. Fuck making people feel bad for wanting an education that doesn't put people in debt for the next twenty years

And fuck you for thinking that the taxpayers owe you free college.

My mother didn't pay off her student loans until she was 46 years old living a privileged life with a high salary job. Is raising the taxes the solution?? Probably not. But obviously the system is fucked considering there's several schools that can function for the next 50+ years on their donations alone. I'm so fucking tired of people shitting on others for wanting things like education so they can live successful lives. Jesus Christ

Fuck that guest for thinking higher education should be a luxury commodity only rich people can afford.

The problem with college is the fact that we let the government get involved with student loans. While that seems absurd, it's kind of true. Suddenly, college was available for everyone, and that meant frivolous degrees (like getting a Masters in Medieval literature or a bachelor of arts in women's studies) were soon widely accessible. I'm not saying that those degrees are completely useless. They're useful on a smaller scale, but when everyone starts getting those degrees instead of specialized STEM fields or technical degrees, they're useless on a large scale and we don't need that many jobs. Now, because colleges suddenly had the government giving them money, they're all like, let's get more of these easy, useless degrees! Let's charge outrageous amounts for better profits, and to cover expenses of professors and supplies!! You have the government giving these colleges what is guaranteed money for them, but crippling for students (where's my 1.5% federal interest rate, you pricks?!)

with loads of debt, these colleges don't care about you as a person. You are a cash cow to them. They don't care you went into debt and got a loan as long as they have their money. And that's why this is messed up. I feel that higher education is a privilege bestowed upon our country as a symbol of freedom, and we need to treat it as such. Colleges should stop getting so much assistance. We need to ditch these useless degrees and give incentive and focus on the jobs that America as a whole needs. Trade schools should be more widely recognized (I can become a surgical tech within like 3 years, minimal debt, and a decent starting salary?! Hell yes!), and parents NEED to be involved with their children's education from the get-go to ensure that they question their lives and by questioning, that they are wanting to further their education. Education as a whole needs to be overhauled, but I don't think it should fall on all taxpayers to pay for college. I think the government needs to take
