I haven't seen Star Wars. What's the difference? Helmet shape? Rank?

Helmet shape and some of the designs. The new one looks more like Donald Duck.

Was the movie good? Should I watch it or watch the other movies before the 7th? I never seen the series before.

It was brilliant and beautiful and i've seen it three times. It /could/ be a stand-alone but some references would go straight over your head. I'd recommend watching 4, 5, and 6 first.
