While I agree that this is a serious issue, the way this is presented is slightly misleading. It doesn't bother to mention the enormous length of time that the Earth existed BEFORE plants.
On the 46 year scale:
-The first land plants appeared 4.3 years ago
-The first simple forests appeared between 3.6 and 2.2 years ago
There were enormous forests a hundred thousand years ago, then the glaciers came and scraped those right ff the face of the earth, Before that, the area that is now the plains region of the US was a jungle, then was under water. It sounds like Nature is continually changing, regardless of man's contribution.
