To fix it, pull the entire string out. After, tape one end to a knitting needle/dowel/stick of sorts and lace it through. Finally, tie a large knot in the end of each string to prevent future problems.

There is a product for this... It's like a wire with a hook on the end...

Pull the right string through the left hole, and vice versa. It'll cross the strings and there will be less chance of them coming out again.

use a straw. it's fast and won't possibly poke a hole through your clothes.

Actually go ask a garage for a piece of welding wire, thats strong but flexible enough to fiddle it through. Then to avoid further fuckups tie NOT ONE KNOT BUT TWO. At each end of the lace make a double/ triple knot big enough so it wont fit through the hole again.
