My mother was a secret Doctor Who fan ... she came out when I tried to "introduce her" to the reboot.... I have a proud nerd heritage.

What if I told you that perhaps you're a metal head because your parents are metal heads?

My parents would send me to an exorcist if they heard the metal in my playlist ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

my dad is a mild metalhead too (but totally not my mom) He like Rage Against The Machine and Rise Against and more 'moderate' bands vs. what I listen to. He and I went to a huge metal concert with Linkin Park (my fav band ever), Ghost, Rob Zombie, Deftones, and Puscifer, and he admitted to liking it. I've got him listening to Rob Zombie now, which is cool. We rock out in the car a lot. ^_^
