I, as a Christian, totally believe that, but SOOO many people don't. It's the golden rule, and sorta what most religions boil down to anyway. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Simple as that.
I do. Cause actually when you think about it, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, though they all call him by a different name, still believe in the same God.
Isn't that the real problem with ALL religions? And not only the monotheistic ones. I always thought buddhism was different, but look at whats happening in Myanmar. Hinduism? See India. Seems to me the majority of people do not look for contemplation of love and wisdom in any given religion. They want to be sure under which banner they march against their enemies and/or which banner to protect against them. Its a justification of a notion of superiority and a yearning for unadulterated identity by separation. The exceptions prove the rule. And they may not really act within a religion, but sort of a low threshold social club.
Yes they all have their fanatics and assholes. Hell, I saw something awhile back about Sikhs fighting with whatever other religion it was. They were actually stabbing each other! I always thought Sikhs were peaceful!
Oh man it drives me nuts when people use my religion, Christianity, and my Jesus to justify hatred against people. God loves the homosexuals, terrorists, and all others that people hate because they're different. Jesus doesn't approve of the sins but he loves everyone. Amen
Those haters use the exact same scripts as you do, to justify exactly the opposite of what you're saying. Thats totally the same with Islam, whenever someone calls it the religion of hate and violence, there will be muslim scibes to tell you its actually all about love and fucking PROVE it by the script. I rather stick to "The Hitchhikers Guide" instead, when it comes to explaining this whole chaotic mess.
I was raised Christian and I consider myself a Christian, but I'm not "religious" (can't even remember the last time I was in church). I got sick of the self-righteous BS I saw and the whole "not allowed to question anything". I'm more of a "not really sure but try to treat people the way I'd like to be treated because it's the right thing to do, not because some old book tells me to" kind of guy.
Its because, waay back in the old testament, there used to be a law about persecuting anyone not jewish (because christianity didn't really exist back then). However, since it was in the bible, modern-day christians decided to take it as the law, even though jesus said "this law no longer applies"
Long story short: It used to say be mean to people not christian but jesus said no and people didn't listen
Treating people as Jesus tells us to does not mean that you condone their sinful behavior. Homosexuality IS wrong, as is many other things, but we're not to go bashing people over the head with our bibles.
You're supposed to acknowledge that everyone (*including* ourselves) are sinners and do bad (not totally dismiss the bad), but we're supposed to *support* people through the bad times in their lives and *be there for them*. Not call out their flaws at their weakest moments.
Yes, He did. He helped the people who were hurting the most and also the people who needed support when no one else would offer it. And I'm sorry, but how was I being self-righteous? All I did was say how we're supposed to help, not hurt.
We're all sinners. No one is better than anyone else, except Jesus, and He didn't even boast about it! Humility is one of the strongest concepts Christ told us to have.
Long story short: It used to say be mean to people not christian but jesus said no and people didn't listen
WWJD? Probably nail your self-righteous ass to a cross!
