It was joke. What I meant was I like having the textbook near me will doing something else in hopes that I'll "learn by osmosis", meaning that the information will magically make it's way from the book to my brain. Just like the person in the picture, neither of our methods will have any viable results. Though it is true that osmosis wouldn't be the correct term to use in this metaphor, it is the term many use when making this joke.
