I Never Get My Dog's Logic

I have a dog, and he stops barking once you've told him to shut up.

You have to use the right tone... and I think it is pretty arrogant to assume 98% of dog owners have no control over their dog's barking, while "guest" has all the answers

If you have any semblance of control over your dog it will work. So, for 98% of dog owners, it will do nothing.
