Yes it is, oil is made from fossilized prehistoric plants and animals, hence the name fossil fuel....

Oil is just ONE type of fossil fuel. Not all fossil fuels are made of the same plant or animal source. Coal comes from dead plants. And "petroleum is formed when large quantities of dead organisms, usually zooplankton and algae, are buried underneath sedimentary rock and subjected to both intense heat and pressure."

Yup, it pretty much means that oil is made of zooplankton and algae. And I know you're right in that this is a fun site. It's just that I see a lot of posts about oil being made of dinosaurs and thought that maybe the simple line that I said at first would help someone know what's what.

While most of it is what you say it's also fair to say some is made from very early dinosaurs too
