It's an older show by Joss Whedon. I haven't watched it yet but I've heard good things.

If they could get the actor, I bet they could write a clever way of bringing him back (cloning?).

Plus,mothers could be flashbacks.

And it's not like Joss Whedon has ever balked at resurrecting characters
