Could you imagine how pissed you'd be if you had to walk by the stranger that just beat your butt? Would you shoulder check them?

Can you imagine meeting your soul mate that way? Like, you just start playing, waiting for the light, and you lose, so you glance to the other side, and its the most beautiful person you've ever seen, and they smirk at you, and you're just at a loss for words. So the next ten minutes (you forgot what you were going to do, and so did they) is almost life and death, thunderdomem to win the game. And then, you finally cross the street, and you ask them out for a drink, which leads to dinners, and to dating, to true love, to marriage, and finally to a happily ever after. All because you took one road, and played a game of pong.

I've never seen these traffic lights here in Germany. Also most people ignore traffic lights so there would be no one to play against.
