I believe it is a reference to the IGSE or AICE exams that are taken in England. A* is basically the highest score you can get. It's like an A+

Our grading is different
NA is Not Achieved so a fail
A is Achieve so you passed
M is Merit so it's above
E is Excellence so it's well above
