No one is forcing you to buy the unhealthy stuff

No, but the caloric density (if not the nutritional value) of the junk food is higher. Also, in terms of calories per dollar, the junk food is more efficient. So, if we view food as fuel then the junk food is more efficient. That being said, the chicken is FAR healthier.

Anyways, some people don't have the skill, time, or money to cook. Cheaper food is easier and faster.

Frozen veggies are very cheap and easy to make. People buy chicken breast when they should buy the whole chicken. Beans and rice are super cheap and healthy. I lived on a VERY limited budget while working full time job and taking classes. IF you have access to a grocery store it's not as hard as people make it out to be. You just have to get use to eating beans instead of Doritos.

They don't teach grocery shopping and budgeting in a required home ec class at school anymore that I know of. Also part of the problem.

While I empathize with the concept, I call bullshit on the example. Kielbasa, pork chops, thin sliced boneless chicken, and sweet Italian sausage routinely go on sale at my grocery store for $2.50-$3.00 per pound, with bags of frozen veggies at 10 for $10 pretty regularly. All of the above can be cooked in 10-20 mins depending on method. For $15, I can usually get enough food for 3 simple, quick meals that will serve 4. And that's at a regular grocery store, not a discount grocer. You can do even better at Walmart, or sometimes Target.

Dude, what kind of chicken are you buying if it's 13.50 for that much? I worked at a grocery store for three years, there's always sales on chicken, just learn how to shop!
