It may be even more heartbreaking, because of the scene between littlefoot and his mother as she's dying. That part is so sad. I bawl my eyes out every time.
The father was an abudive asdholr, thr mother a codependent doormat who refused to leave him. When she was basically threatened with loosing her daughter's income she finally decided to try to get out. He killed her. The kids then lived in the house a few days before setting it on fire and killing himself
