Cats can't recognize themselves in a mirror or photos, let alone see something above their head on a monitor, turn to see if in fact it's really there and then double checking to see if it's still around their head. Either the cat thinks your girlfriend is standing behind them and is getting confused at seeing their "reflection" (cats can recognize familiar faces in mirrors) but not them, or is hearing a ghost.
