Fun fact: as long as they don't ACTUALLY all die, it can be a very good tactic! King Goujian of Yue, 400 BC, would give armor & a small blade to deathrow criminals, and send them to the frontlines. The opposing army would literally see the first row of "soldiers" slit their own throats. Then the second, then the third, etc. While Goujian's enemies stood there all like "WTF IS HAPPENING", the rest of Goujian's army would trample the dead criminals, and proceed to take the rest of the enemy by surprise.
