Right. I read somewhere once that dogs eat crap (cat crap, dog crap) because theey have a poor sense of taste. What happened to that amazing sense of smell? Isn't smelling something before you eat it some kind of survival instinct?

As gross as it is it isn't just dogs that eat poop. Lots of animals eat poop to gain nutrients and minerals and such that are still in the *ahem* 'leftovers'. Lots of animals do that, including horses, camels, cats, birds etc. Cows and horses even chew up bones of other cows and horses for the calcium in them. The animal kingdom is a fascinating and disgusting world. You gotta love animals for all aspects of them.
