Why was an organ even on the curb?

Most of the ones that people chuck out are unserviceable because they're old and the market for them has shrunk so dramatically. It might have been worth $8000 when it was new (probably in the 60s), but if it had anything like that value now, it wouldn't be sitting on the curb like garbage.
