Which is why you shouldn't put salt in plastic. It should go in glass.

Some countries have laws that packaged food must have an expiration/best by date. It's so the store can't try to pass off old food to you. Pure sugar also lasts forever, but would you really want to pay for some that "expired" 10 years ago?
