The idea is that God would send someone who's able to help, not that he would magically make everything okay.
The comic artist obviously doesn't understand that.
And if only more people realized this. People give prayers without doing any actual work. It's at least good if they bring attention to issues, but if it falls on limp ears, there's no point.
That guy should've helped him, but if there was nothing he could've done the best he could do is to pray/hope for his well being. Everybody has wished for somebody to be okay. It doesn't always have to be a prayer.
I took this to mean that in the modern-day, instead of actually helping someone we give them uplifting comments on Facebook or other social media, not actually do anything concrete. I didn't take this to be about Religion or God sending someone.
