From the battle keeps replaying itself in my head. Rushing over 200metres of open land watching my friends and family
Get cut down by machine guns. I saw them die in front of my eyes. I kept pushing, stopped thinking of the horror and made it through to the German lines. I heard the screams from men dying slowly and painfully from a bombardment of shells raining through the sky, tearing up the ground. Not many men made it into the trenches. We forced the Germans out of their trenches. We regrouped tried, blood on our legs, arms face. It wasn’t our blood it was Germans and our own men our mates, family. We waited in the trenches for our next orders, people calling out for their friends who weren't there. There was a depressing vibe throughout the men even though we had completed our task.
