Myth has it that sailors used to do this, so when they drowned and their bodies would be washed up a shore, they wouldn't get buried in a pauper's grave but could "pay" for a decent burial. Back then, when piercings and tats were really for badass men only.
Not for nothing but:
(1) Where could Morgan Freeman possibily go and no one knows who he is?
(2) Why would he be in such a place without a movie crew, security, paparazzi, etc?
(3) If he did die, alone, in such a desolate place what are the chances anyone finding him would
(a) know that they should bury him themselves and not call for the police,
(b) know that they should use his jewelry to pay for it, and
(c) go through all that trouble for a random corpse found laying in a ditch.
(4) What are the chances that his jewelry would still be on his body, and not stolen, when he was found by the unrealistically good Samaritan I mentioned above?
