Yeah I can see this pope saying you don't need to be from a religion or go to church but I would not think he would say no need to believe in god

Yeah, he actual catholic sentiment is that it is definitely possible for non Christians to go to heaven, and we should all be loving of others, no matter their beliefs. Still, religion and the Church are both extremely important aspects of Catholicism. Of course, this is just a basic idea, and the statements of Pope Francis and the Church can be found in better detail online from official catholic sources. Hope that helps :)
