If you think about it, it's always been that way. In the past, the son would stay at home and eventually inherit it while the daughter would be married off.

Didn't know choosing to get married and leave to start a fam with someone who's gonna help pay rent constitutes as getting "kicked out" but ok.

In the Philippines, you can even stay at your parents house even when you're married along with your husband/wife.
