Once here it got so cold so fast over night, a wave by the shore on the lake froze, beautiful

Allowing that to happen can cause a crack in the pipe. The water in the pipe leading up to the Faucet freezes, expands, that breaks the pipe. That's why In faucets that go to an exterior wall, the valve is recessed a little bit so water always drains out of it so that when it's below Freezing there isnt water in the part that's exposed to the coldest temperature.

I live in Frankfurt and that must've been a while ago but there were those days I just didn't leave the house at those temperatures
