Okay, but honestly when you think about it, not only is it dangerous and deadly, you could also go fucking up a kid for life. If they kill someone accidentally, when they finally realize what they did? They have to live with that for the rest of their lives. It's terrifying to think about the consequences to not properly securing a gun.
The problem is, it's very difficult to legislate "every gun owner must have a safe and use it" without having to go into people's houses, and if people are that dead set about keeping their guns, they wouldn't be thrilled about having police in their house. About the best you could do is slam them for criminal neglect when something goes wrong.
i agree with that to a certain point ajhedges but as a gun person when i was a kid i would of found a way in to a safe there is no place in your home kids cant get in to thats why you must educate them take them out to the range teach them gun safety and show them what this thing does (gallon water jugs and heads of lettuce work great) and explain to them how you can never take a bullet back, once its fired its to late.
I know a guy who's dad made him put down their sick dog.
I think that was a bit extreme, but he swears up and down that the experience knocked a lot of stupidity right out of him.
