That's rude of your cashier. A cashier is supposed to wait for their current customer to leave before attending to the next person. Yes, speed is key, but making your customer feel rushed is bad for business

Sometimes its not even the cashier. Sometimes the person behind you is already moving in for the kill.

that's very true and it makes me mad because I'm fully aware that some of my customers feel anxious during checkout and people telling them to hurry up only makes them feel worse

Even though it says leave your basket at the start of the line, I take it with me at the end cos anxiety while trying to put my groceries away and they already start serving next customer
