when i went to highschool in WI (i moved a bit) there was a "drug and alcohol" class. it alsotaught us about haw to do the Heimlich maneuver and certified us to give cpr for babies, children and adults. it was a required class to pass that highschool. i believe all schools should have a class like that.

We had a self defense course in gym class Freshman year and my partner was two feet higher than me. A lot of was was had flipping a 6"1" 220 guy over my shoulder and vice versa. Also in JROTC, we we're also taught this maneuver but was not certified since it was middle school.
