This seems clever at first. But realistically someone in a wheelchair would probably have to fight pedestrian traffic should there be very many people on the stairs.
And while a thin young person in a wheelchair might be moved for easily so long as traffic isn't too congested, many people look at middle aged overweight persons in wheelchairs as "only in the chair because of laziness " even if they have good reason for the wheelchair. And people tend to look at "lazy" wheelchair users as "entitled" and "can wait for the rest of us".
And that's not even accounting for the number of people who simply are not simpathic to disabilities. Some even feel that the disabled should not exist within "normal" society.
Yesterday I was with a disabled woman who wanted to say hello to another woman who was walking by the park we were at. The other woman literally crossed the street to avoid the disabled woman I was with. And the disabled woman was so disappointed. She just wanted to say hello.
