Colleges aren't making the profit, publishers are. That's why they make the exact same book year to year but make it a different edition by making the front cover a different color and they replace the word "because" with "therefore".
Yeah definitely rent textbooks, even if they are related to you major you usually wont need the same book twice. I also recommend renting them "off campus" from an off campus bookstore or from amazon, in my town the price to rent on campus is $162 while the off campus bookstore it was $50 to rent. Stay away from campus it's always a rip-off!
Or use Chegg. Chegg is an online textbook rental service. They have great prices and you decide when you will return it when you rent it out. Shipping is free through UPS. Whenever you're ready to return them, put them in any box, tape it up and print out the printing label they give you on your account then drop it off at any UPS store. It's super easy and convenient.
