No need to read the summer reading this year

I've never read it for some reason, but I'm always told that you can skip the second chapter, as he just does a lot of talking about the whale.

I can confirm that it's definitely real if you take honors or AP classes, I did all four years of high school and I never had a summer free of reading and other homework

Oh yea! And we always had to do these terrible notecards too that covered all the elements of the book like characters, plot, symbolism, etc .

Thanks for the responses. That just sounds so odd to me!
Here's another question: Who would assign and correct the work? Would it be your previous teacher or your new teacher?

At my school we go through and meet all of our new teachers for next year on the last day of school, so that's when they usually assign the homework, though sometimes they'll hold a meeting after class one day to give all the new kids the reading. Then you turn it in on the first day that fall and the new teacher grades it.
