Yeah they shed their antlers off and they grow new ones for mating season. A "button buck" is a male deer a few months old whose antlers are just beginning to grow so they look like velvet nubbs. When they're about 1 year and older, instead of buttons, they grow spikes. The buttons and spikes eventually get big enough for "branches" to grow and boom. A nice set of antlers
Obviously you didn't read the post or my comment. Bucks naturally she'd their antlers sometime between January and march. They grow new ones in the spring to compete for females and territory
