In this particular scenario, he actually parked it right. Notice that the space next to the tree won't fit for even a small car. If he insist to park exactly following the line, there will be a tight space for the sedan to open the door. So, he's doing the right thing, giving the sedan a little more space, and taking the useless spot next to the tree.
In this situation, probably nobody but I think everyone should learn to park within the lines, so that they are accurate enough when they arrive at a parking lot that isn't empty. Also I know this doesn't happen very often but what if you arrived at an empty parking lot, parked like this guy, and then many more people would come to the lot? Then you'd just seem like a douchebag.
An advice my driver's ed teacher gave me: follow the rules perfectly, even if there's nobody around (he was talking about staying within the lines, using turn signals and so on). If you don't, you might start forgetting to do it altogether.
