The original characters are Japanese. Most of the cast is white, yet a lot of people are losing their minds over one black actor because it isn't "authentic" . But hey, that's none of my business.

It's an Americanized re-imagining because the Japanese already made a live action. This movie is going to be waaaaay different and a little original so I'm pretty hyped for it
No one cares about L being black . The director totally shit on the entire premise. It's no longer about good vs evil (and what those things are) in a battle of wits. It's about a pissy whiny little boy killing off people he doesn't like. It's literally not even the same story or character personalities, but this lazy ass director is trying to play it off like it is. He could have just made a new story, but instead choose to jizz on the entire plot line of one of the greatest stories ever told.
But I guess that's just the American way.
Yeah, I'll just go about believing that everything the writers, directors, and actors have stated, every interview done, every statement made and every trailer released are all lies and completely false information, has nothing in any way to do with what the film is going to be and hope for the best!
That makes perfect sense!
I have to agree with Yuki on this one. There is no way in hell a movie of max 2 hours long will get anywhere near to the original series. I'm probably not even gonna watch the thing to not spoil the original impression of the series.
But I guess that's just the American way.
That makes perfect sense!
