Pealing an orange sounds like hard work but not as difficult as fixing the environment we've screwed up

If people really think peeling an orange is hard work then all hope is lost for society going forward. Laziness is a disease.

These aren't provided for convenience. They're for arthritic or disabled people who can't peel an orange. Those people do exist, you'll notice if you leave your house.

Some people are too old or week to peel an orange or cut up veggies but a lot of people end up buying them even though they don't need to because it's convenient. The solution is to make the packing sustainable and biodegradable because we love our convenience too much, and for some it is necessary. Like with cars; we've built our world around them and won't give them up so the best we can do is make them (and roads) sustainable.

Perhaps it's packaged for convenience

The waste outweighs the convenience. Oranges are naturally convenient in that they don't need any packaging and peeling them takes little to no effort. If people are too lazy to peel an orange then they need to take a good hard look at their life.
