As air moves away from the mid-latitudes toward the poles and toward the equator, it doesn't move in a straight line relative to the earth's surface. Rather, it moves in a slightly curved direction as a result of the Earth's rotation. This phenomenon is called the Coriolis effect.

Aristoteles figured it out 400 BC, Magellan proved it 1520, and all they got was a brain. And today people believe in a flat earth (these people DO exist!) because some bullsh!tters prank them on the internet, mainly by appealing to their delusional "I'm smarter than the rest by default" attitude. It took the internet only 20 years to turn from being the holy grail of knowledge into an abyss of stupidity. Well done., humans.
