Try pouring some lime juice as well for a better effect.

This summer I was peeling and cutting about a pound of an especially aromatic batch of garlic (to make puree and deep freeze it), and wasn't wearing gloves (like I had done may times before) and found out this stuff was really, really strong. After about 20 minutes, my fingertips (thumb, index and middle finger) started burning like I had tipped them in boiling water. One of the most intense pains I ever experienced, which went on for a couple hours before it got better. Next day, my fingertips were totally numb, and I noticed the papillary ridges had disappeared. The next day my fingertips started forming blisters which came off the next couple days, and I had papillary ridges again unfortunately, I was planning a lot of perfect crimes already. Best garlic ever! I try not to tell this story, when I'm serving anything cooked with this batch, just my wife knows and gives me funny looks when she fears I'm going to gross out our guests.

Actually, garlic is very useful for a particular type of eye infection that causes an inflammation in the eyelids and pain when you blink. If you apply garlic on that, the inflammation goes away almost instantly. Just sayin'.

I know, stye eye. After my above mentioned experience I'd rather rely on a pharmaceutical antibiotic, but it's really often said to work well. .
